orange is the new... red?

Since summer '13 I have been wanting a lipstick in a orange-red shade that's more orange than red but not something from crayola (no offence to crayola!).

However, for some odd reason (or maybe because I have way too many) I haven't gotten around to purchasing that particular lipstick.

BUT! IT IS nearing the end of January so I'm back on the search for the perfect orange. If you're like me in any way, then maybe this will help narrow down your search (not by much because there are over a dozen below)!

These are all images and descriptions obtained from sephora.ca so I imagine there's no reason you wouldn't be able to find a price for them if you searched. I, personally, like to not think about prices when trying to find "the one" in products. That being said, they range somewhere between $25.00 CDN to $39.00 CDN.

Continue below to see the shades and my thoughts (before seeing them in person).

If the KAT VON D lipstick doesn't twist all the way down I won't even touch it! 9 out of 10 times I definitely will ruin the tip of lipsticks that are "exposed" and I know, I'll eventually use enough of it that it'll be below the rim but until then I'll have to deal with the ugly!

The MARC JACOBS packaging is simple but beautiful to me, I adore anything that's black with contrast silver/gold. That little silver button there, adorable.

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about my naked2 palette from URBAN DECAY so I have high standards for their lipsticks as well. It may be a little more red than I'm looking for but I guess I'll never know until I try it (or see it).

I've never owned a BUXOM myself but fiery coral is calling out to me. My sister has a plumping lip gloss and boy does it do it's job. I'm not excited about that outer packaging but I notice that it's their signature. What I do really like is that engraved brand on the lipstick itself.

This DIOR packaging is interesting (to the point where I really don't know if I love it or hate it). The name is something catchy though isn't it? "Addict Extreme" is jumping out at me.

I've heard great things about GUERLAIN cosmetics and their fancy Gs. This one looks like a shimmer, so if you're a glossy/shimmery type of gal, you might want to move it up a few spots on your list.

I really could live without the mirror on some GUERLAIN products. I think it adds too much bulk and isn't a large enough mirror for my liking. I'm hoping this one is a stain of sorts (which would making them long lasting and also dry a little more matte than they apply).

Never have I ever tried an HOURGLASS product. But there is a first for everything and if this works then I will probably go on a rampage to get at least 5 other HOURGLASS products.

Now, I think STILA is on the lower end of the spectrum in terms of price and I think that's partly due to this packaging. That was not an insult. The size of this looks very compact and convenient. And look at that "Stay ALL DAY" and it's a liquid lipstick? Tell me more.

This first one by ESTEE LAUDER also looks like it would be a shimmery lipstick so all you glimmer queens out there, take a note of this. I've never tried Estee Lauder products either (there's so much I've get to discover) but there is a kiosk in the mall so maybe I'll drop by and check all of them out!

Long Lasting is something I definitely look for in a lipstick, or any kind of makeup product really. Peachy coral may be on the "more orange" end but I'm willing to venture outwards a little bit.

This one is not an orange. I know. But, class blue red sounds like the perfect red. Because, if you know about reds and what's most flattering when worn, blue reds are ideal because it will create the illusion that you've got whiter teeth. (If you've got pearly whites like those commercial people then I guess you don't really care what shade of red it is because it'll all be flattering).

YVES SAINT LAURENT is probably one of my favourite packagings when it comes to lipstick. An all gold or silver tube with the lipstick colour showing in the middle and subtle brand advertisement. It just looks so fancy when you pull these out (and that's something I love to do!)

The Glossy Balm seems like a shimmer colour as well compared to the others. The shimmer is not too noticeable and I find them very moisturizing but the (only) one I have is a very light coral that's perfect for everyday wear. For occasional orange (and who knows I might go orange everyday when it warms up!) I would prefer matte lipsticks. They also show off your lips a lot better than the shimmers!

Correct me if I'm wrong but this might be one of the older YVES SAINT LAURENT packagings? The nice things about this (besides the packaging which I adore!) is a) that engraved YSL! b) the SPF and c) doesn't seem like a shimmer but a gloss. Now I know I've said over and over I would like something matte but in reality most my lipsticks are semi-matte or glossy.

AND YES OF COURSE! I saved the best for last. This is probably my all time favourite in terms of packaging. The subtlety of the engraved "GIVENCHY" on the inside and outside of the tube. That little square stud looking thing on the bottom! The engraved GIVENCHY symbol. And of course, of course, of course, the leather detail on that packaging. Working with leather, I've developed some kind of obsession with it and on a lipstick packaging, well what more could a girl want? The girls will stare at me as I pull this out for reapplication at work ;)
